GENERAL CHEMISTRY 101
GASES
In this section, we shall discuss the empirical gas laws and the kinetic-
molecular theory that explains these laws. Different gases differ widely in
chemical charateristics; however, all gases have similar physical properties
that are distinguished from those of liquids and solids by the considerable
differences in compressibilities.
Under normal atmospheric conditions(i.e., 1 atm and 25°C), only
11 elements are gases. Thus, it is instructive to distinguish between a
gas and a vapor. A gas is a substance that is normally in the gaseous
state at ordinary temperatures and pressures; a vapor is the gaseous form
of any substance that is a liquid or a solid at normal temperatures and
pressures. [..see syllabus]...(Its important that you complete the
"self-

In addition to the regular homework assignments of problems from the text,
self paced exercises, activities, quizzes, and virtual/practicals are
incorporated in each major section of this course. It is important, to
the extent possible, that each student take maximum advantage of these
study aids!
